THE YEAR'S BEST AFRICAN SPECULATIVE FICTION VOLUME THREE: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

The Year's Best African Speculative Fiction Volume Three anthology is now open to submissions until the March 31, 2024.

This next volume of the series covers works originally published in 2023. It will be published with a release date of late 2024 under the Caezik SF & Fantasy imprint( Arc Manor).

Editors for this volume are Oghenechovwe Donald Ekpeki and Chinaza Eziaghighala (bio coming soon).

GUIDELINES

 

We welcome submissions of all reprint works of speculative fiction, from any genres and sub genres, including fantasy, dark fantasy, science fiction, horror and genre blends, up to 17,500 words, published by Africans or authors of African descent in 2023. This means all flash, short story, and novelette fiction is eligible, if the rest of the parameters are met.

 

Send your submissions as a Word document file with your name, country of origin, email address, word length, first publication date and venue, to yearsbestafricansfv3@gmail.com

 

We will be receiving submissions until midnight 31 March 2024, US Pacific time.

 

Authors will be paid 2c per word in USD for a reprint story. Poems will be paid a flat rate of $17.00.

Oghenechovwe Donald Ekpeki

Oghenechovwe Donald Ekpeki is an African speculative fiction writer, editor & publisher from Nigeria. He has won the Nebula, Otherwise, Locus, British & World Fantasy awards and been a finalist in the Hugo, Sturgeon, British Science Fiction and NAACP Image awards.

 

His works have appeared in Asimov's, F&SF, Uncanny Magazine, Tordotcom, Galaxy's Edge, and others. He edited the Dominion anthology, Africa Risen, Bridging Worlds, the Interstellar Flight Press collections window and created the line of Year's Best African Speculative Fiction anthologies.

 

He was a CanCon guest of honor as well as at the Afrofuturism themed ICFA 44 where he coined a new term/genre label, Afropantheology, and started the Pantheology project.

Chinaza Eziaghighala

Chinaza Eziaghighala is a Medical Doctor and Storyteller. She is a University of Iowa International Writing Program and Voodoonauts Alum. Her works are in British Science Fiction Association's (BSFA) Fission #2 Vol 1 Anthology, Mythaxis, Planet Scumm, Metastellar, BrittlePaper, Afritondo, Future Fiction, Hellboundbooks, and Please See Me


She won the 2022 Horror Writers Association Diversity Grant. 


CHIMERA, her debut novella, is forthcoming in April 2024 from Nosetouch Press. She also writes for Film and Television, currently working as a screenwriter for Africa Magic.
